Is the Apple Mac Mini M4 the Best Budget Mac Ever? Full Power Review!

Apple's Mac mini M4, Apple's smallest & most

powerful device according to its pricing. I know it's a late review,

But this is called a review. If I had to open the box & give you an overall review,

I would've done it long ago. I ordered this from Apple's website when it was launched. And it came to me around 10th of this month. I don't know when this review will reach you,

But we have done a lot of testing. And this is not just another Apple's Mac mini M4 review. This is something different. You're on wapin.xyz, Do follow! And we're not opening the box as you might

have already seen a lot of unboxing videos. I've shared the unboxing blog on Instagram. And the Mac mini M2 came like this. Look at the M4, it's very small & the

performance is amazing! Let's start with the build & design.

You will get the same look as a Mac mini It's a full Apple design. It's a silver metal device & the bottom

part is made of polycarbonate. There are ports at the back & front. It's a cute & symmetrical device.

It's 5 inches in length & 5 inches in breadth. It's 1.96 inches in height. It's not too heavy as it weighs

670 grams if you travel a lot. You have a portable monitor & a keyboard & mouse. You can use it in your hotel room or anywhere. You can use it on a laptop as well. But if you have a mini PC &

you are stick to this due to budget constraints, You can use it for travelling. The worst thing I found in this is the power button. I don't understand, When the Mac mini M2 had a power button in the corner. Who is this in Apple's team to put it down? First, they put the charging port under the magic mouse. Now, they have put the power button below. They have done this on purpose so that

people abuse them & they become more popular. They removed the cloth worth Rs 2,000. Who is this? Earlier, we used to get exhaust vents at the

back in the Mac mini M2. This time, the exhaust vents are at the bottom. There is no opening. It's a covered device

& it has a single fan. It also has a speaker which is better

than the Mac mini M2. If I give you an idea, It's like a laptop

speaker with 2-2W speakers. You will get that type of sound from the speaker. The experience is good if you want to sit & edit content. Another thing that I didn't like is, They should've included a microphone in

Siri or Apple intelligence. Mac mini M2 also didn't have a microphone. If you want to talk normally in meetings,

They should've included a microphone. Apple being Apple, They have to leave something. Coming on to the ports, There is a power input port at the back. There is a 2.5 GB RJ45 LAN port. You can also customize it. You can also do a 10-bit port. But obviously, It will cost a lot of money. There is an HDMI 2.1 port. The brand has mentioned 4K 240Hz & 8K 60Hz. We have a 4K 144Hz monitor. It was giving 4K 120Hz maximum output. I don't know about the output on a bigger monitor. We couldn't check if it will work or not. There are 3 Thunderbolt 4 ports in a Rs 60,000 device. Giving 3 TB 4K ports is a big deal. The Thunderbolt 4 Type-C port is a next level port. Because it supports 40Gbps bandwidth. You can take fast speed data transfers, Display output. It supports DP 1.4. You can take 3 display outputs with M4. 2 6K 60Hz display & 1 5K display

output as mentioned by Apple. You get multiple options. You get a mixture of HDMI & Thunderbolt. You can take maximum up to 3 displays which is a good thing. It supports up to 2 displays. So, If you are in the stock market &

you want a productive device. And you want Harshad Mehta vibes. This will make your work great. The 2 Type-C ports at the front are 3.2 Gen 1 ports. They come with 10Gbps bandwidth. Gbps, Gigabit, Gigabyte. Bandwidth, Speed. Do you know the difference? No? Google it. You get an indication light here. You get a headphone/mic jack combo. You can connect your headphones & speakers here. As such, There is no shortage of ports. All the ports are filled in this small device. Just 1 Type-A port should have been there. I personally like it because Type-C USB hubs

are very expensive. And Type-C ports are a lot. The future is Type-C only. If there is a Type-A port then there are some things

in our life that are running with Type-A. I don't know where Apple is making &

where people have reached. But, We are Indians. We have a lot of Type-A in our country. So, You will feel that drawback. You will definitely have to buy converters

or Type-C USB hubs. You will have to run your work through those. And according to productivity point of view, There could have been a SD card slot

or a micro SD card slot. Which could have worked as an expansion. Because storage, I will come to that later. If we store data in the SD card & do our work in the SSD, It would have become very flexible for us. Like, If you put a micro SD card in the handle,

You can put games in it. I missed it. What do you mean you will get the same thing in M5? Then, Coming on to the technical things. You will get Apple Silicon, M4 chip, 10-core CPU,

4 performance cores, 6 efficiency cores. It has a 10-core GPU & a 16-core neural engine. Just like you get NPU in a Windows laptop. To handle AI tasks. It does a great job. We took out the benchmark & run some tests. I will tell you everything, Just wait. The biggest highlight is that you get 16GB RAM. LPDDR5X with a speed of 7500MHz. For the first time, Apple's base product has 16GB RAM. In M2, It was 8GB. And in this productivity, I used to say, Sorry,

We won't be able to do it. And when we used to customize the other

variant to increase the memory. You know, Apple is charging blind money. So, You can run the work from the base. Lastly, comes the storage. It has a 256GB internal storage. You can see its read & write speed. It has a very basic read & write speed. So, You won't face any issue while doing any task. But, If you compare it with a Windows laptop. Or in this price point, You get Gen 3,

Gen 4 SSD laptops or mini PCs. You get good speeds, But it doesn't have that. And you will feel that 256GB is very less. But, They have done a good thing in this. It doesn't have a soldered memory. You can replace it and increase the storage. It has a small SSD which comes in handhelds as well. But, If you open it yourself, The warranty will be void. So, You buy the SSD & go to the service center & ask them. Ask them to do something for you. I don't think Apple will do anything for free. But, You have another choice. If you are buying a device worth Rs 60,000. Buy a 1TB SSD. It gives a constant speed of 1Gbps in Type-C port. 1GB, If you use Thunderbolt 4 port. You can do all the work in that. There is no issue in connectivity. It comes with Wi-Fi 6E & Bluetooth version 5.3. So, Overall, It's a good one. Except for the storage. You have to customize the storage & pay for it. So, That's all about the device. Now, Let's talk about the performance & benchmark. Here, You can see Cinebench R23. I compared it with Apple M2. We are getting a good number difference. You can see the same in Cinebench 2024. In Cinebench 2024, M2 didn't run on GPU. If you look at the GPU, It's giving good numbers on M4. Then, Here is GeekBench 6. It's an amazing number. The GPU score of OpenGL is 38,000+. You can get an idea about the GPU of this device. You will get to know how powerful it is. Then, Here is GeekBench AI Benchmark. We kept the back-end on Neural Engine & CPU. It's giving good numbers on Neural Engine. We tested the CPU, If you want to compare

it with other systems. Because, In most of the X86 architecture,

The main load is on the CPU. NPU doesn't get that much load. In the near future,

We will be able to compare more numbers. And its Neural Engine is very good. Then, Here is CrossMark Benchmark. You can see the productivity, creativity

& responsiveness numbers. If you want to compare it with any other system. Then, Here is Blender Benchmark. The GPU score is around 1,000. But, We don't judge it. Because, We tested the render of Blender. We tested the BMW test on the CPU. It took 2 minutes 39 seconds. But, When we shifted it to the GPU, It took 28 seconds. Then, Here is Puget Benchmark. It's giving 10,000+ for Photoshop. If you want to run any level of Photoshop, If you have a big PSD or multiple layers, If you have applied full effects and masking, It will say we can run it. Then, Here is Premiere Pro. The score is around 4,000. But, We can't judge it from the numbers. Because, The native apps of the ARM base, Gives a very good experience in this number. In this, We ran a good Photoshop project. 4K 8-bit with 60 FPS. We also added motion graphics, Adjustment layer, We also added effects in some videos. There was also an audio layer. In this scenario, Our timeline experience was smooth. Plus, There was no issue in editing. But, This is very subjective. How you are editing, What is your timeline. But, We didn't face any issue. There were some lags in some frames. We also used Filmora Studio. We also ran Filmora in this and it was very smooth. There were 2 scenarios in this. In which, Our project setting was at 1080p 25. We got a smooth experience in that. In 4K 25, Our timeline was not smooth. But, Wherever we were playing it, It was playing properly. If you turn on the background render, Which Filmora uses, You will get a premium experience. It doesn't feel like you are editing in a Rs 60,000 mini PC. It's amazing. You can see the benchmark score of

DaVinci Resolve free version. It's around Rs 6,000. And this is the free version. You need a subscription for the studio version. If you want to compare it, You can't compare it with any Windows device. Because, Hardware encoding is not used in Windows. As it is mentioned on the screen. In macOS, H.264 & HEVC hardware encoding is used. So, Numbers can be different in both scenarios. There is no issue in blog editing in this device. Did you understand? Let's talk about AI. We tested Lava 3.2 Vision in this. It is an AI chatbot with 11 billion parameters. Which is developed by Meta. We were chatting in it. And yes, It runs offline. It has a smooth experience. But, If you run a model in this, In which more parameters will be trained, Then you will definitely need workstations. Did you understand? While running this, RAM is being used properly. CPU usage was around 88%. This is the GPU graph. GPU was shooting up a lot. You can guess from this. You can see how much effort this model has put on it.

And our machine passed it smoothly. And the command that we had run to shoot

it was visible on the screen. And the story that it gave us was very fast.

And we compared the same thing with M2 as well. And in M2, it got stuck as soon as it wrote hello. And our results were very

time taking compared to this one. And the biggest role in this is its CPU and 16GB RAM. Which makes it do complex tasks very well. And when it comes to AI,

image generation is being done by everyone. In this, we did stable diffusion.

The version of stable diffusion is 1.5. And the model on which it was run,

I will give the link of that model in the description. And look at the command in front of you. We have given such a heavy burden

of image generation command. And our result came out within 13 seconds. And the same command,

we had run everything on M2 as well. In that, it took us 21 seconds. So, by this, you must have realized that this

AI task are also doing better. And this was just a sample test. It will depend on which model you are using, What type of prompt you are using and how many

parameters your model is trained on. There are a lot of factors. I ran the test and showed it to you. And we are talking about music production. Music production is very famous on Apple devices. Because of Logic Pro X, this software is very optimized. Because it is made for their system. And all my music production friends whom I have talked to, Because we don't know about it.

We have run it a little bit. But you won't face any problem. Next, GPU intensive tasks. First of all, we kept the After Effects

cache preview on automatic. Those who run After Effects will know. When you scroll the timeline, it automatically puts

it on half resolution for a smooth experience. And there are multiple layers here. There are a lot of cuts as well. There is a lot of masking and tracking. And there are a lot of other things which

I don't know about. Because I don't know how to run After Effects. But if you use After Effects intensively,

it can be subjective. What type of project you are using or not. But in our case, our editor used it and

found it to be working fine. Apart from that, if we talk about 3D modeling and rendering, We have tested it on this device. There are no issues. But there is a subjective part in it as well. As your project increases,

you will create different models on it. The more it increases, the more lag strutters you will get. But it gives a good performance at the

price at which it comes. According to the person who has done 3D modeling on it. And the same goes for game development. If students want to do coding,

there won't be any issue. Python, HTML, C, C++. It's basic. If we talk about the emulation level, If you want to develop an app or want to

run an Android studio. It gives a good experience. And if you want to develop applications for Apple devices. Here, you have to do emulation. Like we did iOS emulation. It is very smooth. If you want to develop apps for Apple Watch or iPhone. You can do that as well. And it gives a good experience. I have told you as much as I was able to test in our studio. The rest is subjective for everybody. And then comes gaming. No one talked much about gaming. So, I thought I will run the game. The native games like Resident Evil Village,

Resident Evil 4 or Assassin's Creed Mirage. They are being launched natively on this. And you will get a lot of game tests on it. And you will get good FPS. But, I ran Windows games on this through Steam. And the software that I used is called Crossover. Through which we can emulate our Windows games. And that too with good FPS. If you want to watch it,

Tell me in the comments. First of all, I tested CS2. And you can see the lowest possible settings of 1080P. We are getting around 100-110 FPS. It's a good experience. We have used an external monitor

with high refresh rate. Then we ran Ghost of Tsushima. There was a CPU instruction error. For that, we downloaded an instruction fixed file. We installed it and played the game. After that, we tested 1080P on medium settings. We kept the FSR frame generation on quality. And we are getting a 55-60 FPS gameplay. Then we tested GTA 5 on very high

settings in 1080P resolution. And we are getting a good 90-100 FPS. You can enjoy GTA 5. Gaming is running on Apple device. Then we tested Horizon Zero Dawn on low

and medium settings. We kept the frame generation on quality in both scenarios. And we are getting 30-40 FPS on medium settings. And we are getting around 45 FPS on low settings. You can play AAA games on medium to low settings. Hellblade 2 is a very good game. And its resolution was a bit weird. We tested it on 960 and 796P. And we were getting 30-35 FPS in

the lowest possible settings. It was playable. And this is an Unreal Engine 5 game which is emulated. And still, we are getting 30 FPS. After that, we tested Elden Ring on high and low settings. We got 60 FPS on low settings. And 40-45 FPS on high settings which are playable. Then we tested Spiderman Murli on lowest

possible settings in 1080P. And we were getting 45-50 FPS on frame generation quality. But if you turn off the frame generation

then you won't get good FPS. We were getting around 25-30 FPS. After that, we tested Black Myth Wukong on

1440P which is made on Unreal Engine 5. And we were getting 35-37 FPS in lowest possible settings. We didn't get much difference in 1080P. We were getting around 40 FPS. After that, we turned the frame generation to ultra. And we got the bar to 33 FPS. Which means the resolution was low. And we were getting 60 FPS. Now we will play Black Myth Wukong on an

apple device, And it is playable. Lastly, we tested Cyberpunk on lowest

possible settings in 1080P. And we were getting around 75 FPS on

lowest possible settings. And we were getting 60 FPS on high settings. But if you turn off the frame generation

then you can play on medium settings. And we were getting around 30 FPS. Now we can say that we can play games on Mac. And special thanks to Hardik Bali from my team. Come here. He tested it day and night. It's not like you just put the game and go. It takes a lot of hard work. What did you say? Yes, tell me sir. then you will get 1Gbps. And you won't face any problem. You can do productivity tasks, gaming or data storage. So let's conclude the performance. If you are a working professional,

content creator or a student. And you have a budget of Rs 50-60K. And you want to do all the tasks that I have told you. You can do all these tasks very well. At this price point, you can buy a Windows

mini PC or a Windows laptop. You won't get such a fluid performance. And a question comes to people's mind. Are all the apps paid on Apple? I can't say it openly. But where there is a will, There is a way

I hope you understand. So this was the complete review of Apple Mac mini M4. Should you buy this device? In Rs 60,000, Openly yes. And not even Rs 60,000. You will get a card offer of Rs 4,000 for Rs 56,000. And if you put a student discount then

you will get up to Rs 50,000. And if you are looking for a mini PC for

day-to-day tasks or office tasks. You have to do productivity. I have told you the level of productivity. It depends on the user. It is very dynamic. This device is very valuable for money. Just add the price of storage along with

the price of this device. If you are going to customize it then

you will have to pay for it. Otherwise, you can buy an external SSD. It will be cheaper, If you get 1 TB. And with its Type-C port,

it will maintain your flow very well. And I didn't find any other problem in this device. Performance is top-notch. Everything is good. You can share your thoughts in the comment section.
